A fantastic example of a traditional but still retro sweet which has kept up with the changes in the way we communicate! Who can remember what was on them during your childhood? Still a firm favourite with adults and children alike and a best seller in our traditional sweet shop
There were originally 30 different messages and outdated ones get edited out and modern sayings are brought in.There are currently something like 134 different messages stamped, and the family of Swizzels Matlow are responsible for coming up with any new ones!
On very rare occasions the company will produce a run of personalised sweets. Diana, Princess of Wales, received personalised sweets when she visited the factory in 1990 (photographs recording her visit adorn the staff lavatories) with the slogans saying 'Prince Charles', 'Princess Diana', 'Prince William' and 'Prince Harry'. The same privilege was given Prince William again on his 21st birthday, with a run of 'Happy 21 Wills' Love Hearts. There have also been competition winners with one of them being one-year-old Elijah Swan, who was born on Valentine's Day 2007 with the main arteries connected to his heart the wrong way round. He had the words 'Heart Baby' stamped on a Love Heart in 2008 in honour of his survival.
Will any of our customers ever be lucky enough to have a run of their own Love Hearts produced? That would be fantastic!
